Pedro Porro told the Tottenham squad they have to show a stronger mentality after they survived a major scare on Wednesday night in the Champions League against Monaco.
The Spanish right-back helped Spurs survive a second-half onslaught at Stade Louis II when goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario came up trumps with eight crucial saves.
But on another night, Spurs could have been thrashed and Porro took his side's shaky performance personally as they bid to bounce back this weekend against Everton.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Porro said when speaking about the club's form in the Champions League: "We're not in a bad situation but let's hope for a second win.
"The other day, in the draw against Monaco, I said it in the locker room: 'We don't have the mentality and in this competition, they run over you and you don't even realise it'."
Tottenham remain unbeaten in Europe but have drawn their past two matches after also claiming a point in Norway against Bodo/Glimt.

Spurs are currently having to make do without captain Cristian Romero, who is trying to battle his way through an adductor issue.
The Argentine is now back running on the grass with Tottenham's fitness coaches but he will not be available for the trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tottenham have failed to win either of the two matches he has missed since pulling up in the warmup before the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
While Spurs' results have been somewhat inconsistent, it's been a fine season to date for Porro on a personal level.
Slowly but surely, he's beginning to consolidate his place as the Spain national team's starting right-back ahead of next summer's World Cup.
The 26-year-old was previously left out of Luis de la Fuente's squad for the European Championships last year and he had to watch on from home as his team-mates lifted the trophy after beating England 2-1 in Berlin.
Porro was self-critical when reflecting on his journey at international level, adding: "I lacked experience; that's why becoming a better player requires paying attention to every detail. As a right-back, you face top players, but the most important thing is to be focused for 90 or 120 minutes."
The former Sporting CP defender is now of growing importance in north London and recently wore the captain's armband for the 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Doncaster Rovers.
