After Comedy Nights With Kapil on Colors and The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony TV, India’s ace standup comedian Kapil Sharma now hosts The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix.
The show’s season 3 recently started streaming and three episodes have already been aired to middling response.
According to Indian Express, the first episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show featured Salman Khan and saw 1.6 million views, and 1.9 million hours viewed. For those unaware, Netflix calculates the number of views by “total hours viewed divided by runtime.” The number of views are different from the number of viewers.
It opened on the 7th spot of the Global Top 10 Non-English Shows on Netflix.

In comparison, the opening episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show season 2 featured Alia Bhatt and generated 1.2 million views and 1.4 million viewing hours. It took eighth spot on Global Top 10 Non-English Shows.
And the opening episode of season one featured Ranbir Kapoor which garnered 2.4 million views.
Coming back to season three, since the first episode featuring Salman Khan, the numbers have witnessed a decline as the second episode featuring the star cast of Metro… In Dino.
Netflix claimed that the second week views of the show was 2 million which seem higher than the views generated in week one but the reality is that these “cumulative views for the first two episodes in the second week of the show.”
The OTT platform didn’t reveal separate views for episode two.
The third episode featured Indian men’s cricket team coach Gautam Gambhir along with players like Abhishek Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal and Rishabh Pant.
The show got only 1.2 million views in the third week, which was the cumulative viewership of week three including all three episodes.
While the viewership of the comedy show is on a downward spiral, the silver lining is that it continues to be the only Indian show on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Shows list.
The fourth episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show season 3 will feature celebs like Vijay Varma, Jaideep Ahlawat, Jitendra Kumar and Pratik Gandhi.
The Great Indian Kapil Show season 3 streams on Netflix every Saturday from 8 pm onwards.
