The Ashok Nagar police have arrested a dermatologist for sexually assaulting a female patient while he was examining her at his private clinic in central Bengaluru. The 56 year old Dr Praveen has been remanded to judicial custody, as per a report by TOI.
According to the victim, Dr Praveen allegedly took advantage of her being alone at his clinic on Saturday evening. The woman told TOI that she was usually accompanied by her father but that day he was unable to go with her.
She has alleged that the doctor with the excuse of checking her skin infection touched her inappropriately and harassed her for approximately half an hour. Despite her resistance, he continued to kiss and hug her multiple times, and also make several indecent gestures towards her.
The victim also claimed that she was forced to undress under the pretext of examination and afterwards the doctor proposed to book a hotel room to spend private time with her.
The family, along with other local residents, gathered outside the clinic and staged a protest. Police arrived at the spot and detained the doctor who denied the allegations, claiming the complainant misunderstood his actions.
The police has registered a case under sections 75 (sexual harassment) and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
