July 14 School Holiday: Schools shut in these districts due to Sawan Somwar and Kanwar Yatra

As the sacred month of Sawan (Shravan) commences, several districts in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have announced school holidays on Monday, July 14, 2025, due to the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. This annual pilgrimage involves thousands of Kanwariyas travelling long distances on foot to collect Ganga water for Jalabhishek, leading to packed roads and major traffic challenges.

To ensure student safety and ease congestion, local authorities have ordered the closure of all government and private schools on Mondays during the Sawan period.

Districts Under Closure Orders
In Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi and Budaun districts have officially declared Monday holidays throughout the month. The District Magistrates in both areas have directed school managements to enforce the closure.

In Haryana, Nuh district has declared school holidays on July 13 and 14 due to the Jalabhishek Yatra, which aligns with the Kanwar Yatra in the region.

Reason for the Holiday
The decision has been made in light of the following concerns:

• Ensuring road safety for students and school transport
• Managing traffic congestion caused by the Kanwar processions
• Facilitating smooth religious gatherings
• Avoiding potential law and order issues during peak movement times
