Pitru Paksha Rituals: Every year, the time of Pitru Paksha is considered very special in the Hindu calendar. This is the period when people perform Shradh, Tarpan and charity for the peace and blessings of the soul of their ancestors. It is believed that during this time the ancestors come to earth and expect tarpan and reverence from their descendants. Pitru Paksha will start from 07 September in 2025 and will run till 21 September. This 16-day time is not only for rituals but also an opportunity to show respect to family, tradition and ancestors. What to do in Pitru Paksha? (Pitru Paksha 2025 Dos)
1. Perform Shradh on the same day on which your ancestor died.
2. It is considered very important to perform Pinddaan, Tarpan and Brahmin Bhojan in Shradh.
3. In Tarpan, Arghya is given with black sesame, barley and water. It is best to do it daily.
4. Feed Brahmins on the day of Shradh, if Brahmins are not available then food can be fed to a needy person, cow mother or a poor person.
5. Charity has special importance in Pitru Paksha. Donating food, clothes, shoes, umbrella and other useful things gives satisfaction to the ancestors.
6. Maintain a satvik and calm atmosphere in the house. Perform regular worship and take care of cleanliness.
7 All the members of the family should sit together and eat and remember the ancestors. This maintains unity and positive energy in the house.
What not to do in Pitru Paksha? (Pitru Paksha 2025 Donts)
1. Avoid tamasic food during Pitru Paksha. Especially meat and alcohol should not be consumed.
2. Any auspicious work like marriage, housewarming, tonsure or starting a new business is considered inauspicious at this time.
3. According to many beliefs, cutting hair and nails is also not appropriate during this time.
4. Avoid new clothes, jewelry or big purchases.

5. Do not use garlic and onion in food. Eat only sattvik food.
6. Stay away from fights, disputes and negative atmosphere in the house. Try to create a peaceful environment by uniting the whole family.
7. Avoid laziness during Pitru Paksha and focus on doing good work so that the ancestors can be pleased.
