Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In the wake of some incidents of cheating of elderly people in a week, the Indore police on Saturday issued an advisory to make citizens, especially the elderly, aware of fraudsters who posed as police and cheated people of their ornaments, on the pretext of helping them ward off criminals.
Additional DCP (crime) Rajesh Dandotiya said that there were at least three or four incidents last week with elderly people on a walk or going somewhere alone in the city.
The conmen duped the elderly by posing as cops. They told the people to remove their gold ornaments as there were criminals around and the area was not safe. They helped the victims remove their jewellery and later fled with it.

The elderly people thought that the police had taken off their jewellery and kept it in bags for safety reasons, but when they reached home, they found that they fell victims to the conmen as their jewellery was missing from their bags.
In fact, the conmen had somehow managed to steal the jewellery while pretending to keep it in the bag.
Police said that the people should not trust such people, because the police never removed anyone’s ornaments while warning about crimes.
The people should immediately contact the Dial-100 number of the police if they were stopped by such criminals. They could also make phone calls on the city police’s Crime Watch number 7049108283.
