Kharghar Liquor Ban Proposal Moves Ahead, Voting Process Explained

A proposal for a permanent ban on liquor in Kharghar has been proposed with the district collector. 

A delegation led by MLA Prashant Thakur, comprising political party office-bearers and members of the Kharghar Struggle Committee, met the Collector Kishan Jawale  on Monday.

The discussion centered around the official and administrative voting process required to declare a permanent liquor ban in Kharghar.

Voting Process Explained: 25% Voter Support Needed

"The Collector  informed that if 25% of the voters from the three wards of Kharghar submit applications in favor of a complete ban, the voting process can proceed. Accordingly, further action will now be initiated, " said a representative.

The authorities also informed  the delegates on how to carry out the "Upright Bottle – Sideways Bottle" voting method.

The election will be conducted under the supervision of the District Collector’s office and the electoral roll for Assembly elections will be used for this process.

District Collector Kishan Jawale instructed the excise department officials to extend full cooperation to the Kharghar Struggle Committee for implementing the liquor ban and carrying out the election process.

Issue Raised in State Assembly's Monsoon Session

The MLA had earlier raised this issue during the monsoon session of the state legislature through a calling attention motion, drawing the government's attention to the need for a complete liquor ban in Kharghar. 

The meeting, was also  attended by the Superintendent of State Excise, Zilla Parishad CEO Neha Bhosale, and other State Excise officials.
