An entrepreneur died after treating herself to cosmetic surgery on her buttocks for her 40th birthday. Mum Natália Cavanellas Thomazella died in the operating room on Monday after going into cardiac arrest just moments after she had received an injection in her behind.
Natália, a well-known and successful businesswoman in Sao Paulo, Brazil, couldn't be saved despite the efforts of medics. Doctors suspect the heart attack may have been caused by the injected fat causing a blockage in a blood vessel. She leaves behind a daughter and a husband. A police report read: “The medical team reportedly began resuscitation efforts. Although the patient initially responded, they were ultimately unsuccessful.”

Natália’s surgeon’s lawyers released a statement, confirming: “Unfortunately, the patient developed a serious complication consistent with a pulmonary embolism. [This is] a rare, but recognised occurrence in medical literature, even when all preventive measures are taken.” Police have registered the mum's death as "suspicious".
Her heartbroken husband paid tribute to her. He said: “We all know what an incredible woman Natália was – beautiful, independent, highly professional, full of joy, and with so many other wonderful qualities. Sadly, Natália left us yesterday, but she will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
“We were married for several years, and from that marriage came the greatest gift of my life – our daughter, Manoella. Manoella is so much like Nat, even in her personality. She’s very outgoing, just like her mum – I think she takes after her in every way, and today I see what a blessing that is.

“I’ll always tell Manoella what an amazing woman her mother was – the kind of person everyone loved and admired – and I’ll make sure we always keep her memory alive.” A Sao Paulo Civil Police report obtained by G1 news outlet said she also booked in to undergo liposuction and for additional work on her breast implants.
Her death comes after a young US police officer died months after travelling from Louisiana to Florida to get a Brazilian butt lift. Wildelis Rosa had arrived in South Florida for the procedure on March 18, but by March 23, she was dead.
The 26-year-old began having difficulty breathing and complained of losing sensation in her legs and feet just a few days after surgery. Her blood pressure dropped and three days after the operation, which she had got as a birthday treat, she collapsed in her bathroom. She was found unresponsive, subsequent CPR attempts were in vain, and she was pronounced dead the next morning.
One of her four older siblings, Anamin Vazquez, knew she had gone to Miami but only learnt about the surgery after it had happened. She told local media: "You know, we had just that feeling in our guts, like something was wrong. I texted her and said, 'I hope you're doing okay, you're enjoying your birthday.' But there was no answer back."
Shortly before the surgery, Rosa had returned to the States from a deployment to Kuwait as a US Army Reservist. She had a "very bright and promising future" according to her sibling. On her plans for the future, Anamin revealed: "She wanted to work for the FBI."
She said her sister paid $7,495 (£5,488) to have fat removed from 12 areas and injected into her bum. Her death was attributed to a pulmonary embolism caused by blood clots. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office ruled it to be an accident. Anamin said: "I want her death to be, if anything, a cautionary tale for those who are thinking of having these surgeries."
