TV fans 'work out' when they'll be able to watch 'best show of 2025'

Fans think they have worked out when 'one of 2025's best new shows' will finally be released in the UK.

Many viewers and critics over in the US have hailed The Pitt, not only as one of the best drama series to not only release this year, but as one of the best ever made. The show recently picked up two major Emmys award, beating out Apple TV+'s Severance for the Best Drama award, while Noah Wyle took home Best Actor in a Drama.

The Pitt is a medical drama starring Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch. The 15-episode long series follows him on one long traumatic shift in a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

While now being an award winning show, it also boasts a 95% rating on website Rotten Tomatoes. Many critics compared it to Wyle's previous medical drama, ER, with some suggesting The Pitt could actually be better.

One reviewer stated: "With its unique pacing, brilliant performances, and simple yet thoroughly engrossing writing, The Pitt easily becomes one of the best shows of the year."

Fans are just as impressed as one said: "I recently watched the first season of The Pitt on Max, and it’s a gripping, adrenaline-fueled medical drama that stands out as one of 2025’s best new shows."

Another added: "A masterpiece of storytelling. A show that redefines excellence. Some shows entertain, some captivate, but only a rare few transcend the medium itself. This is one of those rare gems. From the first moment to the last, every frame of this show is crafted with precision, passion, and an unwavering commitment to excellence."

Unusually, there is still no word on when the show will hit screens over in the UK. That has quickly made it one of the most anticipated titles among avid TV fans.

It has become a hot topic of debate online, with multiple threads on Reddit dedicated to the subject. One person speculated: "I assume any brand new Max series from now on will be held back until the streamer launches in the UK next year."

Another US-based viewer claimed: "Because no UK channel has either wanted to, or been able to afford to, pick up the UK rights at the moment, especially with it airing on a not terribly popular US streaming channel.

"It was a show commissioned for HBO Max, which is definitely not up there with Hulu or Peacock in terms of populist programming in the US."

However, this isn't strictly the case. Hulu is owned by Disney, so their shows like High Potential, always end up on Disney+ in the UK. Meanwhile, Sky have a deal with HBO that means all their exclusive shows almost always end up landing on the channel Sky Atlantic for UK viewers first.

They have a similar agreement with Peacock, which is why shows like Poker Face and The Paper also released on Sky. These titles are also made available via the NOW streaming platform.

As for holding titles back, Sky and NOW have recently released the HBO show Task on their channels. Episodes for that show are being released weekly, almost day and date with their US times.

So why The Pitt still doesn't have a UK date remains a mystery. It can't be held back as an incentive for UK fans to sign up to a new streamer as it was announced last December that Sky have retained the rights to all HBO shows and movies even after the launch of HBO Max in the UK.

In a statement, Sky said: "Building on the award-winning Warner Bros Discovery content available today on Sky Cinema and the existing franchises on Sky Atlantic, the new agreement will now include the ad-supported version of Max, WBD’s premium streaming service bundled for Sky customers at no extra cost, when it launches in the UK and Ireland in early 2026. Sky customers will continue to find shows such as House of the Dragon, The White Lotus, and The Last of Us, and any new series aired before the end of 2025, on Sky Atlantic and through Sky’s On Demand service.

"Together with Max, this agreement ensures Sky customers will enjoy an even broader range of WBD content, including HBO and Max Originals, and other series that will be exclusive to Max, including forthcoming series of Harry Potter."

This could still mean UK fans will have to wait until 2026. Maybe Sky will bring it forward after its Emmys success but until it's confirmed, the anticipation continues for now.

The Pitt is streaming on HBO Max in the US and expected to come to the UK soon.
