Trent Alexander-Arnold is set for a swift reunion with Liverpool after the Reds were drawn against Real Madrid in the Champions League league phase, marking his return to Anfield after his summer move to the Bernabeu. Six Premier League teams will fly the flag for England in Europe's elite competition. Reigning champions Liverpool will be joined by Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle, all of whom secured top five finishes last season.
Tottenham complete the line-up following their Europa League victory. Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, who thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in last year's final, will also be in the mix alongside Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and other European powerhouses in the expanded 36-team tournament.
The league phase will see each team play eight matches, four at home and four away, with results compiled into a single 36-team table. The top eight will advance directly to the last 16, while those finishing between 9th and 24th will enter the playoff round.
