The new series of The Great British Bake Off is finally here; however, fans were left less than impressed over the first elimination. The first week was Cake Week, which involved fiddly fondant fancies and Swiss rolls. The bakers then had to do a showstopping illusion cake, with the theme of the illusion being a realistic portrayal of a specific object. A baker is eliminated each round, and another is named Star Baker. For Hassan, sadly, it was the end of the road as he failed to impress Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
One person complained on X: "Sad for Hassan, I couldn't speak more highly of him #GBBO." A second also commented: " Big mistake sending Hassan home so early.. that man is comedy gold!!! #Hassan #GBBO." A third typed: "I'm actually devastated we have had an icon stolen from us too soon... #GBBO."
Another also said: "Awww Hassan.....I mean....he wasn't great, but we deserve to have him for a couple more episodes." One viewer at home disagreed and said: "No surprise unfortunately, Hassan's first 2 did for him #gbbo."
After learning that he had been eliminated Hassan, he said: "I think I am a bit upset, but I did expect it. Everyone is such a phenomenal baker, they are all such lovely people. And even though it's been a short-lived experience I have enjoyed it. Hopefully I can reflect on some things and then maybe get back to baking when I get a chance."
The first episode prompted complaints within minutes over its opening sketch. Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith returned as judges, with Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding back once again as the hosts. In the opening segment, the group drew inspiration from the Hollywood film Jurassic Park. However, some viewers at home were not wholly impressed with the sketch. One person moaned on X: "#GBBO oh what is this? Kiddies hour? Enough with the ridiculous sketches already."
A second also chimed in: "Lost ten years of my life to that #gbbo sketch." A third similarly echoed: "I love #GBBO but I've just sat with the mute on for the first 5 minutes as I can't stomach the cringy 'comedy' bits. (sorry!)."
One person who loved the sketch said: "Not gonna lie, the opening segment of #GBBO #bakeoff #gbbo2025 was absolutely banging!!!"
The Great British Bake Off resumes next week on Channel 4 at 8pm.
