Wooden floors are favoured in homes as they are typically simpler to maintain than carpets, but during summer months, they can become unexpectedly grimy even with regular hoovering. It may seem peculiar, but dust becomes lighter and more airborne in summer because the warm air contains less moisture to weigh it down.
Arid air also causes timber to accumulate static electricity, which attracts dust and other particles to stick to the surface, creating a gritty coating that acts like sandpaper and wears away the finish. Nevertheless, the specialists at Luxury Living Fort Lauderdale have revealed a straightforward method to maintain your wooden floors' cleanliness and restore their natural lustre using nothing more than some tea bags.
They explained: "Throughout history, black tea has been used to mop hardwood floors. The tanic acid in black tea helps clean and add shine otherwise dull, old flooring"
Black tea represents a traditional approach to cleaning timber floors as it contains compounds called tannins, which are acidic and can effortlessly cut through grime, dust and grease accumulation.
It naturally polishes wood to give the floor a gleaming appearance and also slightly darkens minor scratches to help render them less visible.
Tea cannot repair a deep scratch to make it vanish, but it assists in making surface-level scratches blend with the surrounding timber to enhance the floor's overall look.

You will need:
- A kettle (or pot)
- Five to six tea bags
- A mop bucket
Method:
All you need to do is fill up a kettle, (or a pot) and wait until the water has boiled. When the water is boiling hot, pour it into a heatproof bowl and add five to six teabags.
Leave the bowl alone for 10 to 15 minutes until the water is completely cool and safe to handle. If the water is still hot, you can add a few ice cubes to quickly make the water cold.
Then, remove the teabags and carefully pour the mixture into your mop bucket. Use the solution to mop the floor like you normally would.
Make sure to wring out the mop each time you use it on the floor, and then let the floor dry. Your floor should be completely clean and look better-maintained without having to spend money or use a harsh chemical cleaner.
If you are looking for an extra layer of protection for your floors, olive oil is also a great option.
We previously tested tea bags and olive oil on wooden floor scratches, and discovered they both helped to restore the wood's natural shine and enhances the beauty of its grain.
It might sound odd to rub tea and olive oil into your floors, but the combination actually works really well as you can see here.
