Experts have revealed how one common household item can be used to remove pet hair from carpets in your home - and it's something you probably already have sitting underneath your kitchen sink. We love our pets, but when it comes to certain breeds of dog, the hair situation can be a bit of a headache. Some breeds of dog shed like crazy, making it seem like our homes are constantly covered in dog hair.
However, there is a simple fix that you might not have known about. All you need is a rubber glove that you would use for washing dishes and general cleaning around your home. Experts at Gtech, a UK-based home and cleaning brand, revealed that rubber gloves are among the best ways to get rid of pet hair from your carpets and around your home in general. There is a simple science behind it.
Similar advice was shared by Kazimieras Urbonas, supplier excellence manager at Ovoko. They explained that pet hair is a common complaint they get from car owners who find it in their vehicles.
But rubber gloves are a great solution, whether you are cleaning your car, your stairs, your furniture or your carpeted floors in your home. Kazimieras revealed: "The good news is you don't need fancy equipment or expensive products to solve this problem effectively.
"Most people don't realise that rubber gloves create the perfect conditions for pet hair removal. The rubber material generates static electricity when rubbed against fabric, which literally pulls the hair out of the fibres and clumps it together for easy collection."
The method is pretty simple and involves four small steps. First, you put on a pair of rubber gloves. Then, you lightly mist your gloved hands with water.
Make sure that your hands are just damp, not soaking wet. Following this, rub the fabric surfaces in circular motions, applying gentle pressure. Finally, watch the pet hairs clump together and easily lift them away from the carpet.
"I've seen people spend £30 or more on specialised pet hair removal tools that don't work half as well as a £2 pair of rubber gloves," the expert said.
They added: "The glove method is faster, cheaper, and more thorough than anything else I've tested."
The best news is that rubber cleaning gloves are super cheap in most supermarkets and pound shops. In the likes of Poundstretcher, you can get them for less than 99p.
