Argos is shaking it up with the price drop of a Toshiba Smart HD TV, which is packed with the Sky-rivalling Freely software. This lets users stream TV live and on demand for free, except there's a huge difference when it comes to the price.
Priced at £119 for the Toshiba TV, the offer makes it easier than ever to bring a high-definition viewing experience into homes without the premium price tag, and is a fraction of the price compared to a Sky Glass contract. Plus, consumers can get an extra 10% off when they paste the code RED10 at checkout.
Known for its quality and reliable internet-streamed TV services (instead of pesky satellites), Sky is a popular provider with consumers. However, Sky Glass requires a monthly subscription of £15 a month for the TV subscription and a minimum of £5 a month for the Glass TV set.
Models like the Toshiba give access to streaming apps and on-demand content through Freely, a free service that lets customers enjoy everything in one place. The 32-inch TV packs a lot into a compact frame, making it ideal for smaller rooms or as a secondary screen.
With HD Ready resolution and HDR10, it can show sharper images, greater brightness and richer colours, giving users a premium viewing experience. Sound is equally impressive thanks to Dolby Audio, which enhances dialogue clarity and provides realistic surround effects for movies, TV shows, sports and music.
The Smart TV comes with built-in apps like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube which are all accessible from a customisable home page. The TV can be controlled hands-free with voice assistants, including Amazon Alexa, Google Home or VIDDA Voice. It also has a range of connectivity options such as 2 HDMI ports, a USB port, a headphone socket, built-in WiFi and others.
For other options, Currys also has its Samsung 65" OLED 4K Vision AI Smart TV for £1,899. This offers cinema-quality visuals and sound to living rooms with self-lit pixels delivering deep blacks, vivid colours and HDR detailing. Amazon also have its Amazon Fire TV 55" available for £609.99 on a limited-time deal.
The Toshiba TV has been rated highly on Argos. One person said: "Love the TV and the service was great!" Another wrote: "Best buy this year! Top comments from guests, too."
Another said: "I bought this a couple of weeks ago for my bedroom. I could not be more pleased with it." Some others disagreed with one customer writing: "Generally, happy with this TV. The picture is excellent and the sound quality is very decent. Perfect for occasional use. I use it in an upstairs office with it connected to an aerial."
Another said: "I bought this TV a few weeks ago and the setup was very simple. The only problem is you cannot get all the Freeview stations on WiFi, other than that it is excellent." It is worth highlighting, that the specs of the Toshiba TV won't be as high-end as a Sky Glass TV (to be expected for the price) and users will not be able to access the likes of Sky Sport or Sky Cinema without tapping into a Sky plan, however, the £119 Toshiba TV offers hassle-free streaming over internet, the same perk as many Sky TV products.
