JAMMU: The Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist killed in a recent encounter with security forces in Udhampur district ’s Basantgarh was a top commander of the proscribed outfit, J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat said Wednesday, adding that similar anti-terror operations were underway in the Union Territory.
The ultra, identified as Haider, was gunned down in the forests of Dudu-Basantgarh on June 26, said the DGP, adding that Haider had been active in the area for four years, considered to be one of the longest runs for a terrorist.
DGP Prabhat was addressing reporters on the sidelines of an event in Akhnoor police station, Jammu, which was adjudged by the Union home ministry as J&K’s best police station in 2024. Several policemen were awarded at the ceremony for their exemplary service.
