Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A man in Yamuna Nagar (Jalna) was assaulted by a group of nine men after he confronted them for making obscene comments about his minor daughter.
A viral video of the Thursday evening attack shows the man being beaten with sticks and rods, even as his daughter pleaded with the assailants to stop. According to the police, there was a prior dispute between the victim and the main accused. "This suggests that the attack was premeditated and occurred in public," a senior officer from Chandanzira police station said.
Police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempted murder, along with sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Two of the accused — Sachin Pathade, and Ganesh Kakde — have been arrested. Search is on to trace the remaining suspects who are currently absconding.
