Terror on wings: Pigeon carrying warning to blow up Jammu railway station caught, security beefed up; police probe whether prank or conspiracy

NEW DELHI: In an unusual security scare, security forces in Jammu have captured a pigeon allegedly sent from across the border with a chilling threat note tied to its claws, warning of an attack on the Jammu railway station.

The bird was intercepted on August 18 around 9 pm in the Katmaria area along the International Border in RS Pura sector, officials said.

When searched, a chit written in Urdu and English was found, carrying lines like “Kashmir Freedom” and “Time has come”, along with a warning to blow up the railway station using an IED.

“This is the first time a pigeon carrying a threat letter has been caught,” a senior police officer said, adding that Pakistan has earlier used balloons, flags and even pigeons to send messages across the border, PTI reported.

Security agencies are treating the incident with utmost seriousness.

Dog squads and bomb disposal teams have been deployed, while security around the railway station and nearby tracks has been tightened. Local police remain on high alert.

Experts believe the pigeon may have been specially trained and released from Pakistan with the threat note tied to its claws. “You have to take such matters seriously,” one security analyst cautioned, pointing to the prevailing threat perception in the region, as quoted by PTI.

Officials said it remains under investigation whether this was an act of mischief or part of a larger conspiracy.
